There is a post going around with the Meta/Instagram team talking about how *amazing* it was they were able to take Threads from 1st LOC to App Store submission in a mere... 6 months
with a mere... 60 engineers
& having the huge polished functionality of both Facebook AND Instagram's infra & systems (APIs, tools, databases, CI/CD, QA, DevOps, best practices, playbooks, training, slush funds, comfy couches, snack bars, beefy laptops, latest devices, world class ISPs & data centers, etc etc etc) at their BECK AND CALL. oh & a mere billion+ dollars in the bank **JUST IN CASE**
and they were... so SO lean
& moved... SO so fast
text msgs, folks!
text streams & feeds
in 2023
and you are ALREADY Facebook
I really want to harp on this aspect of their claim though. that they were (and to paraphrase)... so SO so lean:
(again, not an exact quote btw, but me paraphrasing)
Metabook Eng Spokesman:
"Yep! Not an ounce of fat anywhere on our 60 engineer team! and we *eat* our OWN dogfood!” (dogfood: steak, watermelon kiwi milkshakes, pizza on demand, back wubs, latest Zelda)
CUT TO SCENE:
a lone Auschwitz survivor, starving, just bones, eyes piercing your soul, craving even a SINGLE calorie of sustenance to make it thru the next few minutes without collapsing.
Suddenly, he whispers -- his pale stone face a damning rictus, haunting your dreams ever afterward -- the cruelest comment:
"So... so... lean."
