Slartboz, vim, Bram Moolenaar
I’ve already written my first reactions and main thoughts regarding the news of Bram Moolenaar this week. Which I did both here and elsewhere:

But another thought came up I wanted to share, perhaps because others might have had similar moments in their own daily lives and/or desktop computing workflows.
To wit:
This weekend I had been recording a screencast demo of my game Slartboz:
It lasted about 7 minutes. By the end I might have been a little frazzled.
Anyway, once I finished what I had to say and show to the world, I did the obvious thing which was to hit the keystroke sequences to end the recording.
I bumbled it a bit. Either I typed it but it ignored me, or, I typed the wrong sequence because I misrembered in the heat of the moment, due to being frazzled by demo's end.
Eventually I hit upon the magic sequence.
But it would have been so much more natural if they had let it be:
ESC:wq!
RIP Mr. Moolenaar
thank you for your work, sir, and the wonderful tool you provided the world for so long
